Wilhelm's Legacy
Jim Wilhelm devoted his life to the theatre and to the artists who bring it to life. Beginning his career as an actor, he went on to become a respected stage manager, casting director, and ultimately one of Broadway’s most influential talent agents—known not only for his eye for talent, but for his integrity, generosity, and unwavering advocacy for performers.
A leader within the industry, Jim served as Vice President of the National Association of Talent Representatives and was a founding board member of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, helping to champion care and support for members of the entertainment community. In 2010, he was honored as the first theatrical agent in history to be invited to vote for the Tony Awards—an acknowledgment of his lasting impact on Broadway.
Jim was deeply committed to mentorship and education, sharing his knowledge through master classes at universities and conservatories across the country. Most notably, he established an annual scholarship at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music in honor of his late client and dear friend, Broadway artist Laurie Beechman.
After 45 years in New York City, Jim retired in 2021 to Milford, Pennsylvania, with his husband, Jeff Potter. The Jim Wilhelm Memorial Fund honors his legacy by supporting artists, education, and advocacy—continuing the work Jim believed in so deeply.

A note from Jeff:

A not from Julian:
"Jeff and I were brought together through Jim-but it was during his final weeks in the hospital that our bond was truly forged. In those moments, we witnessed firsthand the depth of Jim’s strength, grace, and humanity. I also witnessed an unconditional love-so rooted in advocacy-that it deeply impacted not only me, but every care worker involved, including physicians at the highest levels of medicine. Jim and Jeff’s story, their presence, and their reach left a lasting impression on all of us.As you read this, I can humbly say that I experienced Jim Wilhelm’s care from a young age.
At 14, he mentored me and helped guide my path into the professional entertainment industry. That same generosity and belief in artists is what we carry forward today. That experience connected Jeff and me for life, and it continues to guide how we honor Jim—through this work, and through every artist we support in his name."

Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids!
Jim Wilhelm was a founding member of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BCEFA). As a respected agent in the entertainment industry, his company, DGRW, proudly supported BCEFA by making donations on behalf of their clients for each Broadway opening night.
In lieu of gifts and flowers, those honoring Jim were encouraged to contribute to BCEFA. In his name, over $5,000 was raised-continuing his lifelong commitment to advocacy, community, and care.
